So, if you’ve seen my previously posted questions, I’ve had a really sick dog, and have taken her to the vet twice. Today was the second time I had to take her. She got an xray, some motion sickness pills, and they gave her some fluids. They wanted 400 dollars just for that.
I almost lost my mind. The day before I had taken her into another vet and he charged me 100 for an exam, and a shot of penicillin.
What’s crazy, is when I had my pet neutered, it only cost me 80 bucks by using a doctor off the humane society website.
So besides the point that I think it is WAY to expensive for pet care, I also found out that Vets in my area (California) do NOT except payment plans. It’s cash, or credit. I asked the doctor what someone who cannot afford to pay all the money upfront do about a sick animal and he shrugged his shoulders.
I just feel like there has got to be a better solution to this problem. I know there is pet insurance, but most people (such as myself) had no idea about it
until I was researching methods of help (in case my dog needed surgery).
Does this bother anyone else?

I do think that vet bills are over inflated but that’s the price you pay to have a pet nowadays people are paying for operations instead of euthanasia especially the wealthy(a pet is a luxury not a need especially nowadays). However if you’re not the richest person in the world you may still be able to afford a pet just make sacrifices like not eating out everyday or not buying namebrand products it just depends on how much you are willing to invest in your pet. BTW I am not saying you are a bad dog owner im just telling you to look at your circumstances and in the long run pet insurance is the best just make sure it covers stuff she may be prone to so you dont pay unnecessary insurance bills.
